Laser Gum Surgery in Houston & Katy, TX
Gingivectomy is the removal of gum tissue (gingiva) around the teeth. This procedure is recommended when gum tissue grows excessively around the teeth, causing your teeth to appear small or not to look their best. We can help you with the removal of excess gum tissue to reveal the beautiful teeth that you meant to have. Whenever you have excess gum tissue, you also have deep gum pockets where bacteria and plaque accumulate, grow and cause gum disease. By getting rid of the excess gingiva, you are really improving both your oral health and the aesthetics of your teeth.

Here is how we perform this treatment in our office in Houston!
We advise you to take over-the-counter Tylenol or Ibuprofen before we begin the procedure, although it is not required. The pain medication that you take before the procedure is meant to ease any post-operative discomfort that you may have. We want you to have a pain-free experience not only during but after the procedure as well.
You begin the treatment by soaking your gum in an anesthetic mouth rinse for 5 minutes. Then, we use a laser beam to sculpt and evaporate the excess gum tissue. NO injection is needed in this procedure and you can comfortably have the procedure done at our office in Houston.
A gingivectomy takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how much gum tissue our dentists need to remove. Full-mouth gingivectomy will take 60 minutes to complete while gingivectomy for one to three teeth will take less than 30 minutes to perform.
Here are the reasons why you should have a gingivectomy done with the laser instead of with the scalpel.
- With the laser, gingivectomy can be done comfortably without requiring any injection. When done with the scalpel, many injections will be required.
- The scalpel cuts whereas the laser sculpts with a precision that the scalpel cannot. The result of gingivectomy done with the laser yields a way better result than that with the scalpel.
- Laser gingivectomy typically causes very minimal bleeding whereas the treatment with the scalpel requires dressing to stop bleeding.
- The laser is gentler on the gum tissue; thus, post-operative discomfort is very minimal.
